Technology is a very important part of the educational program at Saint Eugene School and the equipment available to the teachers and students reflect that.
The school is equipped with a technology lab that houses a network server, 16 workstations for students as well as a SMART Board and projector.
Each classroom is equipped with a computer used for instruction, a SMART Board and a projector. The library is equipped with a computer, SMART Board and a projector as well as 4 student workstations. Each classroom has been furnished with their own access point for immediate and fast Internet connectivity. Kindergarten and Grade 4 had new SMART Boards installed last fall.
We are a G Suite for Education school. Students from Kindergarten to grade 8 have school email addresses and are able to logon to Chromebooks and the Desktops in the lab to work in Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Websites, and more. (K-2 students are blocked from using the actual email product.) We also use Google Classroom extensively for our activities. All of the documents are available to work on at home as well.
Students are also instructed in the Microsoft Office Suite of applications, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for Windows 10. Students learn a suite of skills and applications that employers value.
There is a variety of mobile technology devices available to be used in classrooms:
Grades K through 8 has a set of Chromebooks in class. Kindergarten, grades 1 and 2 each have iPad carts. There is a bank of iPads in the computer lab for group video activities. A green screen is also utilized.
Students in grade 7 and 8 can participate in a weekly student newscast, that is streamed using YouTube. The link on YouTube is sent out to each class following the taping. Our newscast is on the school website, www.sainteugeneschool.org/.
There is an after school Code Club offered to students in grades 4, 5, and 6 in the winter and in the spring. Information will come home.
